County Cooling Centers and Resources from the Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES)
Latest news and updates from Cal OES, current as of March 18, 2026
As high temperatures impact Californians across the state, many regions will be experiencing triple-digit weather during the summer season. The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) and its local partners encourage Californians to seek out cooling centers during this period of extreme heat.
Public libraries serve as vital cooling centers during heat waves, typically offering air conditioning, water, and seating during their regular business hours.
TIP: Before visiting a library, it is recommended to call your local branch or check the 211 Bay Area database to confirm current hours and availability, as cooling hours may be extended during “Excessive Heat Warnings”.
