Who we are
As of now, SBX:Skylane* consists of three collaborating organizations whose goal is to create and provide a space that provides support and relief to those with moderate to profound exceptionalities.
The Northern California Volleyball Association (NCVA), which has graciously offered their facility as a temporary space for the individuals affected by the fires, is a 501(c)(3) organization that, in partnership with USA Volleyball, endeavors to promote participation in a quality program that provides a positive and safe athletic environment through a variety of developmental and competitive opportunities for players of all ages, skill levels, and backgrounds. They are located at 5621 Skylane Blvd, Santa Rosa CA 95403.
The Schoolbox Project is a 501(c)(3) organization who brings their innovative model to NCVA’s facility in Sonoma County in the wake of the wildfires. The Schoolbox Project has been featured on BBC, VICE, USA Today, as well as in The SF Chronicle, The Press Democrat, Sonoma West, Times and on medium.com. The organization is a 2017 Child 10 Awardee and recently won the title of “Solver” at UN headquarters in New York City after presenting for the 2017 MIT Solve Refugee Education Challenge.
Matrix Parent Network (that’s us!)is a 501(c)(3) organization, a parent-founded, parent-operated nonprofit organization founded in 1983. They’re providing parental support, creating & maintaining parent networks, scheduling logistics, as well as coordinating a diverse spectrum of therapeutic and support services for individuals and families. Matrix is and will continue to be instrumental in helping identify additional needs as time goes on.
*NOTE: The Schoolbox Project:SKYLANE is not a school nor a child center. We are acting as a child-friendly space offering trauma-informed transitional support, relief, and care until schools reopen and/or families find more permanent, alternative schooling locations.
Provisions and Services
Project Skylane is offering a child-friendly space to provide emotional, behavioral, and trauma relief and support to those with exceptionalities. Our volunteer base is comprised of various trauma-informed specialists, mental health professionals, special educators, occupational therapists, medical staff, behaviorists, and other compassionate community members.
The site is being built out bit by bit to offer necessary support and relief. Donations have been pouring in – sensory-specific toys, hygienic supplies, water, masks, art equipment, and much more. That said, we are still looking for specific donations such as desks, couches, compression vests, etc. Check out our list here: https://needslist.co/schoolbox
The site will be open Monday through Friday 9:30am – 3:00pm so as to provide day time relief and respite. During our first week the Sonoma County Children’s Museum will have a space inside of the facility – with them, they bring a diverse collection of stimulating displays and material for all to enjoy.
Volunteering:
